Age Related Hearing Loss or Presbycusis

Presbycusis, or age-related hearing loss, is a gradual sensorineural hearing decline that affects both ears. As we age challenges may arise in hearing specific sounds and understanding speech in noisy environments, particularly for high-frequency sounds

Research indicates that poor hearing, (sensory loss in general), is a risk factor for dementia development and that there is an overlap in the symptoms of hearing loss and dementia.  Both cause vagueness, misunderstandings, memory loss and social withdrawal.

Managing these symptoms with the use of appropriate hearing aids and staying socially active is very important.

Regular hearing check-ups are key in monitoring your hearing health.
